The Pittsburgh Steelers have extended head coach Mike Tomlin’s contract.

The team announced Tuesday that the three-year extension will keep Tomlin around through at least the 2024 season.

“I am pleased to announce we have extended Mike Tomlin’s contract through the 2024 season,” said owner Art Rooney II. “Mike is one of the most successful head coaches in the National Football League and we are confident in his leadership to continue to lead our team as we work to win another championship.”

“I am extremely grateful for this contract extension and want to thank Art Rooney II and everyone in the organization for the support in my first 14 season.” Said Tomlin. We have a goal of winning the organization’s seventh Super Bowl Championship, and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about this upcoming season.”

Tomlin has a 145-78-1 regular season record over the past 14 years and last year joined the late Marty Schottenheimer as the only two head coaches in NFL history to have 14 consecutive non-losing seasons to start a career.

Tomlin is also the third-longest tenured coach in the NFL currently behind only New England's Bill Belichick and New Orleans' Sean Payton.

The 49-year-old has made two Super Bowls winning one in 2008 (Super Bowl XLIII).

While Tomlin has had tremendous success, his teams have only won three playoff games in the past 10 years.

He has an overall playoff record of 8-8 since becoming the Steelers head coach in 2007.

The 2020 squad started the season 11-0 but another late-season collapse and an early exit from the playoffs left a sour taste in the mouths of Steeler Nation.

2024 will be Tomlin’s 18th season coaching the Steelers and is only the third coach to lead the team since 1969.

He will pass Bill Cowher as the second-longest tenured coach in team history when he coaches his 15th season in 2021.

Chuck Noll is still the longest-tenured coach at 22 years, 1969-1991.
