Tucker Wetmore is already a winner at the 2026 ACM Awards, scoring the Best New Artist Award in an announcement earlier this week. The Washington native continues to rise towards the top of the Country game thanks to hits like “Brunette,” which he recently unpacked with Rob + Holly.
LISTEN NOW: Friday Night Takeover with Tucker Wetmore
Tucker explains that "Brunette" was an "outside song" he received while waiting to board a flight in Ohio, and while the initial demo only contained an acoustic guitar with the lyrics and melody, he immediately found the song "weird" but compelling.
"I listened to it and I go, this song is weird,” Tucker shares with Rob + Holly. “This song is so weird in a sense that I have to have it, you know, And obviously the message behind the song is, you know, you've been dating blondes, it's time to find a brunette, maybe change some things up, a couple of hidden messages in there, but I just thought it was fun and tongue in cheeky, and it was one of those songs lyrically I haven't ever heard before, and that's a scary, scary thing to try and tackle."
Thankfully Wetmore trusted his gut, and the song and video have taken on a life of their own. But as for Wetmore, does the message ring true when it comes to hair color?
“I'm more so focused on the music right now,” he laughs. “My mom's always said, she's like, ‘you're going to mess around with blondes for a little while, but I truly believe you're going to settle down with the brunette,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, 100%.’”
