Could the Yankees possibly trade Aaron Judge?
The topic was reportedly broached between the Bronx Bombers and Los Angeles Angels this past winter, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Olney described the talks as “the lightest of flirtations,” which were perhaps used as a “door-opener” for other names, although his report did not mention other players who were discussed.
While Judge has filled the Derek Jeter-sized hole as the face and leader of the Yankees over the past five seasons, his future with the team is not guaranteed.
The right fielder, who turns 29 on Monday, has struggled to stay healthy for an entire season since winning AL Rookie of the Year in 2017.
Judge is eligible to become a free agent after the 2023 season, at age 31, but there are concerns his 6-foot-7, 275-pound body will only continue to break down into his 30s.
Since hitting 52 home runs his rookie season, Judge has totaled 67 home runs over the course of the last three seasons and first 18 games of 2021, playing in just 260 games over that span.
