Sabres sign defenseman Bowen Byram to two-year contract extension

The deal will keep Byram in Buffalo until 2027

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550/WBEN) - The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenseman Bowen Byram to a two-year contract, with an annual value at $6.25 million late Monday night. Sportsnet's Elliot Friedman reported that the Sabres elected to go to arbitration with Byram stopping any chance at a potential offer sheet.

Byram appeared in all 82 games for the Sabres last season, posting career highs in ice time (22:42), assists (31), points (38), plus-minus (+11) and shot blocks (116).

Byram played mostly with Rasmus Dahlin, playing in all situations on even strength, the penalty kill and on the power play. The Sabres outscored their opponents 80-66 with Byram on the ice.

The 24-year-old from Cranbrook, British Columbia was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche fourth overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Byram played four seasons in Colorado where he would end up winning the Stanley Cup in 2022. Byram would come to the Sabres via trade sending Casey Mittelstadt to Colorado.

Since coming to Buffalo, Byram has totaled 47 points (10+37) and a plus-10 rating in 100 games with Buffalo.
