(WBEN) - A federal push to counteract New York's All-Electric Buildings Act will still move forward, even after the state paused implementation of the new rules.
Congressman Nick Langworthy told WBEN he's still going forward with his Energy Choice Act that would supercede the state's rules. That bill would prohibit states or local governments from banning an energy service's connection, installation, or expansion based on the type or source of energy to be delivered.
"I don't trust that they're (New York State) going to set this thing aside indefinitely," Langworthy said. "This is something they will come back at and that's why my Energy Choice Act will keep going full steam ahead."
Langworthy said the bill will go to a markup in an energy subcommittee next week, and go before the full committee next month. He hopes to have a vote on the bill in the House by the end of the year.
New York's All-Electric Buildings Act was set to ban gas hookups in new buildings under 7 stories starting January 1. This week, the State agreed to delay the policy until the Second Circuit US Court of Appeals makes a ruling, likely some time in 2026.
