Buffalo detective details more child abuse allegations in second podcast appearance

Hy accuses the Buffalo Public School District of covering up sex assaults and an attempted abduction

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - One week after Buffalo police detective Richard Hy appeared on the podcast, "Unsubscribe," he joined the podcast again on Sunday to detail evidence he says he has alleging sexual assaults being covered up by the Buffalo Public School District. WBEN spoke to one of the podcasters, who told us, they have been getting flooded with tip calls since the first podcast episode was released.

The Buffalo Teachers Federation sent a statement in response to the second podcast released over the weekend:

“It was brought to my attention that a second podcast reporting an alleged coverup effort of child abuse in the Buffalo Public Schools was released yesterday afternoon. I have spoken with the Superintendent since the release of the first podcast late last month alleging the same. She assured me that investigations from all the appropriate parties are actively being conducted.

As I said in my last statement about this matter, I am very concerned about the safety and security of my members and their students. And I am anxiously awaiting details on the status of ongoing investigations by the District, police, and the third-party investigator to ensure that our schools are safe.”
Rich Nigro, President, Buffalo Teachers Federation.

A spokesman for the Buffalo Public Schools released a statement to WBEN on Monday morning:

"BPS is aware of the most recent allegations made by BPD Detective Hy on podcasts recorded over the weekend. The Board of Education advised last week that it is initiating an independent external investigation, and the results will be shared publicly. Due to ongoing investigations and litigation and to not compromise the integrity of the investigation, the district will not make a comment at this time."
