Cuomo warns parts of Erie County is on track for "red zone"

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Governor Andrew Cuomo warned of increased restrictions locally as coronavirus numbers continue to spike locally.
"Parts of Erie County are on track to become a red zone," Cuomo said.
The Town of Lancaster had the highest positive test rate at 9.68%. When compared to Cooperstown's rate of 0.24%, the governor said the disparity might as well be from different states or countries.
New York's positive test rate was 3.08% on Sunday. There were 33 people who died on Sunday. Hospitalizations increased, as did the number of people who were admitted into intensive care.
Governor Cuomo continued to warn of gatherings come Thanksgiving.
"You're going into the period of high-socialization," Cuomo said of the approaching holidays. "That rate of increase together with an additional increase with the high level of social activity, that is a dangerous situation. That is exactly where we are going…It is always the combination of events that creates the major issues. This is a toxic cocktail of dynamics and facts."
Western New York's seven-day rolling average of positive tests has been greater than 4% for each day since November 9. According to state metrics, red zone designation is when a geographic area has a seven-day rolling average of greater than 4% for ten days. Erie County
Since November 7, Erie County, where most new cases in the region are from, has a seven-day rolling average of greater than 4%.
The state has not yet released their coronavirus data for Sunday. We will update this story when the new information comes out.
