NY state reports 129 new COVID-19 deaths as hospitalizations near 7K: Cuomo
NEW YORK (WBEN) -- New York state reported 129 new COVID-19-related deaths on Thursday as the number of people hospitalized with the virus neared 7,000.
As of Wednesday, hospitals across New York were treating 6,928 COVID-19 patients, 1,160 of whom were in intensive care and 621 of whom were on ventilators, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a press release.
Nine hundred and forty-one of the 6,928 patients were newly-admitted, Cuomo noted.
Of the 226,296 COVID-19 test results that came back in the state on Wednesday, 12,568, or 5.55 percent, were positive, he said.
Seven of the 129 people who died of complications related to COVID-19 lived in the Bronx; seven lived in Brooklyn; four lived in Manhattan; eight lived in Nassau County; three lived in Orange County; 10 lived in Queens; five lived on Staten Island; one lived in Rockland County; 15 lived in Suffolk County; and four lived in Westchester County.
"We have nine days left in the holiday season and today, 299 days into the COVID crisis, it is more important than ever for New Yorkers to stay smart and tough," Cuomo said in a statement.
"We are rapidly distributing the vaccine to the most vulnerable New Yorkers and frontline heroes, but COVID continues to spread at high rates throughout the nation and we cannot let our guard down even for a moment," he added.
