Police Seek Driver Of Fatal Hit-And-Run In Brooklyn


NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Officials are looking to identify the driver of a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Brooklyn on Sunday.

At approximately 7:25 a.m., police discovered a pedestrian struck near 19th Avenue and 86th Street in the Bensonhurst.

The victim was laying on the sidewalk unconscious, with severe trauma to the body, according to officials.

He was later identified as 26-year-old Jose Contla.

EMS transported Contla to Maimonides Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

A preliminary investigation determined that a unidentified operator in a black sedan traveling southbound on 19th Avenue, struck the pedestrian as he was walking alongside his vehicle and continued southbound on 19th Avenue.

On Sunday night, police released surveillance footage of the car they say struck Contla, as it drove away from the scene of the accident.

The investigation is ongoing by the New York City Police Department's Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad and police say the vehicle will likey have front-end damage.
