NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) – A young mother-to-be was found stabbed to death in the entrance of her apartment building in Queens Sunday morning. Her unborn child also didn't survive.
Officers were investigating at a grisly scene on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood after the stabbing around 1 a.m. Police say an argument had taken place shortly before violence broke out.
Blood covered the entryway to the newly refurbished apartment building, and a few bloody footprints – what looked to be a man’s boot – made a trail away from the area. Police were able to cut up the sidewalk for evidence.
Police identified the victim as 35-year-old Jennifer Irigoyen. They said she was pronounced dead at Wyckoff Hospital.
Irigoyen was five months pregnant and her baby did not survive, police say.
Adil lives around the corner. His car was parked 15 feet away from where the stabbing happened.
“It’s a horrible situation,” he said.
He and others said the neighborhood is safe even though most shops and restaurants around the scene clear out overnight.
“Pretty peaceful,” one man said. “I see kids out here at nighttime. I wouldn’t think anything like that would happen here.”
No arrests have been made, but a surveillance camera points directly to the entrance of the building, providing possible evidence for investigators.
Someone spotted a man in a gray hoodie running away. A police source tells WCBS 880 detectives are searching for the woman's boyfriend.
