NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The 1969 World Series reunion weekend is here!
The Mets went through many highs and lows before becoming the Miracle Mets.
The team never finished higher than ninth place in the 10-game division and never had a winning season. The Mets had the worst inaugural season at 40-120 in 1962 and the worst record since 1899.
After a treacherous seven years, the Mets finished the season in first place with a record of 100-62 in their division and won 38 of their last 49 games of the regular season.
The Mets swept the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series leading them to their first National League pennant, and a chance at a World Series Title.
The Baltimore Orioles were the fan-favorite to win the title. The team had 109 wins including two 20-win pitchers in Mike Cuellar and Dave McNally.
Despite being a young team and holding an underdog status, the Mets did not give up and went on to beat the Orioles in five games at Shea Stadium.
