NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A transgender woman was slapped and spit on by a man and woman spewing transphobic slurs at a Manhattan subway station this weekend, police said.

Serena Daniari, 26, said she was attacked at the West 155th Street subway station in Harlem on Friday night.

She said she was approached by a man and woman around 9 p.m. The man slapped her and spat on her and then the woman with him slapped her phone out of her hand.

Daniari posted a tearful message on Twitter shortly after the attack.

“I just wish people would leave me alone. I don’t do anything. I just want to be left alone,” she said in the video.

Mayor Bill de Blasio responded on Twitter, calling the attack loathsome and saying the NYPD Hate Crime unit is investigating.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has directed the state police Hate Crimes Task Force to assist the NYPD in its investigation of the attack.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspects on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
