NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 35-year-old Bronx man was sentenced to 18 years-to-life in prison for slashing the throat of a fellow patron of a Long Island strip club in 2019, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

Security camera footage showed Bobby Dee Cruz using a sharp object to cut the neck of a 31-year-old man who was being held from behind in the Show Palace NYC Gentlemen's Club in Long Island City on April 20, 2019.

The victim was brought to a local hospital for surgery and survived the attack.

“Thankfully, the victim survived this unprovoked grisly attack, which not only left a lasting scar but painful memories as well,” said Katz. “The long sentence imposed today by the Court punishes the defendant for his vicious actions.”

Cruz was convicted of assault in September as a “persistent violent felon” — a legal category for people previously convicted of two or more violent felonies. Judges are mandated to give persistent violent felons indeterminate sentences with a maximum of life in prison.
