Jessica Farag gave birth at her home around 12:30 p.m. on June 8, and left her infant daughter on a counter until she died, according to authorities.

Officers from the Jamesburg Police Department did a welfare check on her around 10:15 p.m., because a worried friend contacted them after Farag sent an Instagram message asking for help burying the infant in the woods.

Police found the newborn in a shoebox in the closet.

Emergency responders brought Farag and her daughter to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, where the infant was pronounced dead.

Farag faces charges for manslaughter, desecration of human remains and endangering the welfare of a child.

If convicted, she faces up to 40 years in prison.

While awaiting trial, she’s being held at Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
