NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A man was bashed in the face with a cane and kicked down a staircase at a subway station off Central Park after letting his attacker use his cellphone, police said Tuesday.
The NYPD released surveillance footage of the suspect they’re searching for in the Jan. 23 assault at the Cathedral Parkway–110th Street station on the Upper West Side.
The 45-year-old victim was on a northbound platform at the station just before 10 p.m. when a man came up and asked to use his cellphone.
When the victim handed over his phone, the unknown man swung a cane and struck him in the face, police said.
The victim chased after the fleeing robber, who then kicked him down a staircase, according to police.
The victim suffered bleeding to the right side of his face from the cane attack, police said. The severity of the injuries he suffered in the stairwell fall wasn’t immediately clear.
