VIDEO: Thief bashes Brooklyn laundromat worker in head with hammer; suspect sought

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 70-year-old worker was attacked with a hammer as he confronted a thief at a Brooklyn laundromat last week, police said Wednesday as they released video of the attack.

The victim was working at the Aqua Wash Laundromat near E. 98th Street and Howard Avenue in Brownsville just before 5 a.m. last Thursday when a man came in and began stealing merchandise.

The employee confronted the man, who grabbed a hammer from the laundromat and clubbed the worker in the head with it, police said.

The victim was struck in the head with the hammer four times.

His attacker dropped the items he was stealing and fled the laundromat with the hammer, according to police.

Video shows the entire incident unfold, with the man rushing behind the counter to steal items and then striking the worker with the hammer as he tries to stop him.

EMS responded and treated the victim at the scene for lacerations to his head.
