Jets legend Joe Klecko named 2023 finalist for Pro Football Hall of Fame


A Jets defensive legend has been announced as a 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist.

The NFL announced Wednesday that defensive lineman Joe Klecko is one of three finalists for the Class of 2023, joining Chuck Howley and Ken Riley.

Klecko, a pillar of the famous New York Sack Exchange of the early 1980s that also included Mark Gastineau, Marty Lyons, and Abdul Salaam, was a four-time Pro Bowler who (unofficially) led the league with 20.5 sacks in 1981. Sacks did not become an official stat until 1982, but his unofficial sack total for his career stands at 78.

Klecko’s jersey was retired by the Jets in 2004, and he could be in line for another prestigious honor next year.
