Target to increase number of seasonal hirings

Target is getting ready to hire a boat-load of seasonal workers for the holidays.

According to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Business Journal, Target announced Tuesday that it is hiring more than 130,000 people. that’s an increase of about 10,000 from a year ago.

Of those seasonal workers, 8,000 will work at distribution and fulfillment centers. The pay, $13 an hour, is nearly twice the federal minimum wage. 

Target reports that it is still on track to offer a minimum wage of $15 an hour by the end of June, 2020. 

All workers, including seasonal hires, will also get other perks like a 10% discount online and in stores and the chance to earn holiday pay on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Of the 2018 seasonal hires, Target says that more than 40% still worked for the company after the holidays were over. 

Target will hold seasonal hiring events its stores Oct. 11-13 and Nov. 2-3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., to meet with store leaders and interview on the spot with the chance to receive a job offer during the weekend events.
