As bitter cold descends across the Midwest, the United States Post Service has suspended service in Minnesota for Wednesday.
The suspension also affects Western Wisconsin, Iowa and Western Illinois, according to a press release.
The institution could not live up to its old creed, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds," when faced with the potential safety hazards presented by what is now being called Polar Vortex Jayden.
According to WCCO Radio host and meteorologist Paul Douglas, temperates will drop to 28 below with a possible 50 below windchill in the metro area on Wednesday morning, which is set to be the coldest day the state has seen in more than 20 years.
“What's that old saying? Nothing between Minnesota and the North Pole, but a barbed wire fence? That point will become apparent tomorrow morning,” he said.
Lsiten to Douglas's histroical perspective on the cold fron in his conversation with WCCO Radio anchor Laura Oakes:
