Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy has used his "Barstool Fund" to help a nightclub in St. Cloud, The Red Carpet.
Portnoy called Rick and Rose Gaetz, owners of the famed St. Cloud nightclub, to let them know that they would be receiving a grant from the fund to help keep the bar open during the pandemic. While the amount of money wasn't disclosed, Portnoy says they would receive funds within 72 hours.
"That is just awesome," Rose Gaetz said. "I feel like I just won the lottery."
Portnoy said that he read the nightclub's story and that it "seems like a special place." The Red Carpet, which has been in business for 40 years, says that for restaurants and bars the 10pm curfew is fine, but not for a nightclub.
"We have a 10pm restriction here. Bars and restaurants can be open until 10, which is doing alright for a lot of the establishments but 10pm is too early for a nightclub," says The Red Carpet co-owner Rick Gaetz.
The Barstool Fund has raised over $34 million to date and has now helped 221 bars and nightclubs across America.
