A man has died after an hours-long standoff Monday with police in Winsted, Minnesota. The man reportedly shot two McLeod County sheriff's deputies earlier in the day, which led to the standoff.

In an update around 6:30 p.m., police said the suspect was found dead inside a home in the city of Winsted, located about 20 miles west of the Twin Cities metro area. The circumstances of his death are not yet known.

According to authorities, the incident began Monday morning as two deputies attempted to execute an arrest warrant. The officers made entry into the home and rounds were then fired at, resulting in the officers’ injuries, McLeod County Sheriff Tim Langenfeld told reporters.
The two deputies were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities said they tried to contact the suspect over the phone but were unsuccessful in their efforts over the course of the afternoon. The scene, located in the area of Linden Avenue East and Pheasant Run, is now safe. Residents who were asked to evacuate their homes can return, the sheriff’s office said.
