Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR) - Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson has been named the NHL’s "First Star" of the Week following a strong performance during the team's California road trip last week, where the group collected wins in all three games.

Over the three-game trip through California, Thompson scored five goals and added three assists for eight points. This included a five-point night in Anaheim on Thursday against the Ducks, where Thompson scored a natural hat-trick. It was the 10th hat-trick of his career.
After a slow start to the season offensively, Thompson has now scored 10 goals through 14 games, putting him on a 60-goal pace for the season. The career-best total for Thompson came back four years ago when he had 47 goals and 94 points in 78 games played. He has hit the 40-goal mark three times during his career with the Sabres.
Even when the goals weren't coming earlier this season, the 29-year-old has felt good about his game overall.
“Obviously, some games they’re going to go in for you, and some games are not,” said Thompson following Monday's practice in Buffalo. “I feel like for the most part, we’re generating some pretty good looks and playing some pretty solid hockey. So we’ve just gotta continue to build off it and keep finding ways to be better.”
The Sabres will practice again Tuesday before hosting the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night at KeyBank Center.
