John Katz, reporter for the Las Vegas Review Journal, discussed how Sin City is doing since the coronavirus outbreak.
Katz says it has been really surreal for everyone in Las Vegas. He explains it as being "nightmarish" and says it's the worst case scenario, but the people of Las Vegas understand that this is temporary.
With the NFL cancelling draft plans in Vegas and hotel casinos going dark over the next few days, it has impacted the Las Vegas economy. Entertainers have lost their gigs for an indefinite period of time and have to apply for unemployment. Katz says they are having to survive on savings and qualify for assistance wherever they can.
He also says that Vegas is a community that wants to coalesce, but unfortunately they can't do that right now. For right now, the community is raising money through Mondays Dark, a variety show that raises $10,000 for a different local charity every other Monday. Katz says he thinks they will focus on donating to Las Vegas entertainers in need. The event will be live streamed and donations will be taken online.
