After calling gay rights activist Harvey Milk a "pedophile," the president of the Temecula school board in California has come under fire from parents, teachers, and state officials.
Harvey Milk, The first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California, was included in an elementary social science curriculum's supplemental materials. The board president of the school board, Joseph Komrosky, objected to this at the meeting of the school board on May 16 and asked, "Why even mention a pedophile?". Participants in the meeting objected that Milk wasn't a pedophile, but Komrosky responded, "I beg to differ".
In a subsequent 3-2 vote, Komrosky and two other members of the school board overturned the social science curriculum, leaving the district without a textbook for the following academic year.
Governor Gavin Newsom targeted Komrosky in a tweet in an effort to set California apart from more conservative states.
Recently Co-founder & President of the Harvey Milk Foundation and the nephew of Harvey Milk, Stuart Milk joined CHANNEL Q to discuss the significance of Harvey Milk's sacrifice and the power an individual can have to make positive change.
