This Black Queer History Month, CHANNEL Q and Verizon celebrate the trailblazing Black LGBTQ+ individuals who have shaped history and continue to inspire us today. From Marsha P. Johnson, a pivotal figure in the Stonewall Riots and a fierce advocate for transgender rights, to Audre Lorde, whose powerful poetry and activism centered on the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality, Black queer voices have been integral to the fight for equality. We're celebrating pop culture icons like RuPaul Charles, Josephine Baker, Janelle Monae, Sylvester and Lena Waithe to figures like Bayard Rustin, a key strategist in the Civil Rights Movement, and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a transgender elder who continues to advocate for trans people of color. Their resilience, courage, and contributions remind us of the importance of both celebrating and preserving queer Black history. Be sure to check out our audio capsules with their stories HERE.
