A trans woman in northeast England has been found guilty of sexual assault after failing to disclose her gender identity to a male partner.
21-year-old Ciara Watkin met the man on Snapchat in 2022 and engaged in sexual activity without telling him she was transgender. Prosecutors say Watkin deliberately avoided revealing her gender status, even telling the man he couldn't touch her below the waist due to menstruation.
When she eventually told him the truth via text, the man reported the incident to police, saying he wouldn't have consented had he known.
Watkin was convicted on two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault by penetration at Teesside Crown Court. She'll be sentenced on October 10th.
