Drag Queens Who Perform in Front of Children Could Be Sued Under a Texas Law

Rep. Steve Toth of Texas, recently put forth a bill that would permit people to sue anyone who hosts or performs a drag show in front of children.

According to the bill HB 4378, anyone " who attends a drag performance as a minor may bring an action against a person who knowingly promotes, conducts, or participates as a performer in the drag performance that occurs before an audience that includes the minor."

This legislation could also easily be used to target trans people. The bill states that a person can be sued if they perform while "exhibiting a gender that is different from gender recorded at birth" and "violates the community standards of decency."
