In the past year there has been increased violence against transgender and gender non-conforming people, particularly against Black and Brown transgender women. The LGBTQ+ community is estimated by Gallup to comprise 4.5 percent of the U.S. population, yet in a 2018 FBI report they comprise 18.5% of hate crime victims.
