A federal judge has temporarily blocked Mississippi's new law banning diversity, equity, and inclusion—or DEI—programs in public schools and colleges.

Judge Henry Wingate ruled the law is vague and suppresses free speech, writing that it's already forced institutions to cancel DEI trainings out of fear.

The law targeted programming that promotes awareness of race, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

The Mississippi Educators Association and student groups, including those at historically Black colleges, say the law chilled expression and inclusion.

A court hearing on a longer-term block is set for July 23. More here from TheHill.com
