California released the state's annual hate crime report and while overall showing a decrease of 7.1 percent from 2022 to 2023, the queer, Jewish, and Muslim communities experienced a growing threat.
Hate crimes targeting the LGBTQ+ community at large nearly doubled, showing an 86 percent increase from 2022 with and anti-trans bias events surging by 10.2 percent. Despite remaining the most prevalent category, anti-Black bias events decreased by 20.6 percent.
The report also revealed that the number of these crimes referred for prosecution increased slightly from 2022 to 2023. More here from our friends at LA Blade.
