The U.S.
State Department has issued new guidance on passports with "X" sex markers, following confusion in the trans community after a policy change last month.
The guidance states that passports and birth records with an "X" are valid until they expire, but travelers who received one in the past year can replace it with a binary "M" or "F" marker for free.
New applications requesting an "X" will be changed to "M" or "F" based on birth sex documentation.
The ACLU has filed a lawsuit, claiming the policy discriminates against trans and intersex individuals. The State Department has yet to comment. More here from our friends at NBCOut.com
