President Joe Biden on Thursday denounced a rash of "cruel" and "callous" state laws that limit the rights, visibility, and access to health care of LGBTQ+ people, particularly children, making them feel under attack like never before and giving the White House few options for intervention.
The president continued by addressing LGBTQ+ Americans, particularly young people. “You’re loved, you’re heard and this administration has your back, and I mean it. We are not relenting one single second to make sure that they’re protected.”
Biden commented hours after the White House postponed a large Pride Month celebration Thursday night on the South Lawn because of poor air quality from hazardous air flowing in from Canadian wildfires.
The event continued on Saturday and served as a show of support at a time when LGBTQ people are feeling more under attack than ever from state-level legislation.
Thousands of guests were invited from around the nation for an evening filled with food, games and a performance by Betty Who.
Recently Betty Who also talked to CHANNEL Q about her queer experience and how she uses it to effect positive change.
