Representative Marie Newman of Illinois didn't set out to go viral by having a conflict with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene over a trans pride flag. To hear her talk about how she ended up there, it almost seems like she was always destined for it.
Her son's experiences with extreme bullying and her trans daughter's coming out story both have harrowing beginnings and would lead her to become an anti-bullying expert as well as an advocate for trans rights. The showdown with Greene came later.
