'Lesbian Love Story: A Memoir in Archives,' shares author Amelia Possanza's intimate journey into the New York LGBTQ+ archives and beyond, uncovering historical romances and role models while asking how the world would look "if we replaced its foundation of misogyny with something new, with something distinctly lesbian?"

"Even though there's the word 'love' in the title, it actually was sparked by some anger -- some younger, righteous anger at some fellow community members on a queer swim team with me who did not recognize me as a lesbian," says Amelia. "When the anger fades, I realized, 'OK, where would this friend, this gentleman, have seen other lesbians?' Because I certainly didn't see a lot of them growing up on TV, in the books that I read, even in my friend groups at college there was not a lot of visibility, in my life at least. So, that's what sent me to the archive. I'm like, 'We must have always been here. It can not be that I'm the first lesbian -- that I popped fully formed from Zeus's head. So, I'm gonna go find them.' What I found made me think that I need to share this with other people too."

"I just want more people to get excited about archives and preserving history. It's such an act of community love, to take care of one another's possessions and stories. I think my biggest dream," she adds, "would be that other people go out and there and uncover stories in their community or about an identity group that's important to them -- doesn't even have to be lesbians. I want people to walk away with a nerdy excitement and appreciation for the history that's all around us."
