Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed a first-in-the-nation law that bans adults from helping trans kids receive gender-affirming care without their parents' consent.
Under the law, anyone who helps a child access care in Tennessee can be sued by the minor child's parents.
There are exceptions for adults who have permission from the parents, including those with permission from the parents, ride-sharing apps, buses or airlines that the minor could take to get to a gender affirming care clinic.
Tennessee which has a Republican supermajority, has far outpaced the rest of the country in terms of anti-LGBTQ legislation.
The law which goes into effect July 1st is expected to receive immediate legal challenges.
