When the Patriots return to Gillette Stadium for training camp late next month, it's not completely certain Sony Michel will take the field with the rest of the team.
According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, Michel had surgery on his foot last month and as of now it is unclear if he will be ready for the start of training camp or start the season on PUP. The report says the surgery was viewed as "maintenance-based to help relieve discomfort that Michel had been experiencing."
Michel has had a few ailments over the first two years of his career, but as only missed three games.
As a rookie, he had his knee drained over the summer and missed Week 1 and then later that year missed two games following a knee injury suffered in a game against the Bears.
The Georgia product actually started last year on PUP following a knee scope last offseason.
Michel is the lead back in a deep running back room, which also has Rex Burkhead, James White, Brandon Bolden and Damien Harris.
