Patriots release running back after one day

FOXBOROUGH -- The Robert Martin era did not last very long in New England.

According to the NFL transaction wire, a day after he was signed, the running back was released by the team. Martin spent last season on the Giants' practice squad and had close to a zero percent chance of making the team, so it's really not a huge deal.

Also, wide out Maurice Harris and defensive end Keionta Davis went unclaimed after being waived with injury designations Sunday, so they are back on the Patriots' injured reserve. It wouldn't be a shock to see them released with injury settlements in a few weeks.

The Patriots will host the Giants in the final preseason game Thursday night.
