The Joe Thuney situation continues to be a key part of the equation when it comes to the Patriots' plans for 2020.
Thuney is currently carrying the franchise tag, paying him a $14.78 million salary-cap hit for the coming season. It is a number that can only be reduced via a contract extension prior to July 15. This, of course, has led to all kinds of trade rumors involving the 27-year-old guard.
The latest rumbling comes from Albert Breer of MMQB, who writes in his mailbag when asked about the Eagles vacancy at right guard after Brandon Brooks' Achilles tendon injury:
The Eagles do have room under the cap for 2020 to fit Thuney, but are scheduled to be more than $50 million over in 2021.
Thuney has been rated by Pro Football Focus as the third-best guard in the NFL in each of the past three seasons.
