While the Patriots have added Cam Newton and members of the 49ers have said they are committed to Jimmy Garoppolo, don't shut the door on a potential deal for the veteran quarterback.

Appearing on ESPN's "Get Up" Thursday morning, ESPN's Dianna Russini passed on what she's hearing regarding a potential deal.

“Just recently I was talking to somebody in the league who I really trust,” Russini said. “He’s got good information. He said, ‘Do not take the Jimmy Garoppolo trade off the table.’ That is something New England is still sniffing out. Bill doesn’t like to put his cards out on the table so most think if we all know about that it probably won’t happen, but there is definitely a tone in the league that it could still go down.”

Newton's contract won't prohibit the Patriots from adding to the position and ultimately it will come down to if the 49ers add another quarterback that is an upgrade over Garoppolo.

Many have pointed to Sam Darnold with the Jets, especially if New York is set on selecting QB Zach Wilson at No. 2 overall in the draft.

This storyline certainly won't go away and likely will only pick up as the draft nears.
