McAdoo, along with general manager Jerry Reese, was fired the day after Smith's lone start, although Giants co-owner John Mara denied that the Manning benching was the reason behind that. Interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo went back to Manning for the rest of what turned out to be a 3-13 season.
Thursday night's loss dropped the Giants to 1-5 for the second straight year. Manning was 24-of-43 for 281 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
