'Boomer And Gio': Gregg 'Encouraged' By New Coronavirus Measures

Drastic measures are being taken to combat the spread of the coronavirus in the tri-state area. On Monday's "Boomer and Gio" show, Gregg Giannotti applauded those steps.

Among the restrictions announced Sunday night by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio are that schools have been closed until at least April 20 and restaurants, bars and cafes can only serve food by take-out and delivery.

"Now I'm someone who sees that stuff and becomes encouraged," Giannotti said. "I see those things, and I become more calm; I become more encouraged. I know when some folks see that, they get more panicked because they say, 'Well, this is really, really, really bad if they're doing that. Sure, it is bad. It is something we need to think about. But the point is for it not to get to that point where it's so bad that we're losing thousands upon thousands of people, there's a strain on the health-care industry and we're in pure disaster.

"So I got worried when I saw people crowding bars for St. Patrick's Day weekend," Gio added. "That's when I got worried. I don't get worried when schools are closed. I get encouraged."

As far as sports go, Giannotti and Boomer Eisason, his co-host, said they're glad the NFL has not delayed the start of free agency. The legal tampering period begins Monday, and contracts can be signed starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

"I appreciate that the NFL is staying with free agency because it is a level of normalcy for those of us who work in the sports industry," Esiason said.

"And it's not putting anybody in danger," Giannotti added. "There's not going to be any free agency visits. There's going to be phone calls, there's going to be Skype, there's going to be contracts that are going to be done remotely. And people are criticizing the NFL for going forward with it. You want to say that they're not taking it seriously, I don't see it that way."
