The Mets' ninth-inning collapse Wednesday night against the Dodgers put Kevin Clancy's addiction for the team into perspective.
Clancy, aka KFC Barstool from Barstool Sports, called in to the "Boomer and Gio" show Thursday to discuss the Mets' 9-8 loss in Los Angeles.
With it being a late-night, West Coast game, he fell asleep before the Dodgers rallied from an 8-3 deficit, which included a three-run hole entering the bottom of the ninth. But after waking up to news of the crushing loss, KFC subjected himself to seeing it for himself.
"You know how sick I am?" he said. "You know how horrible this addiction is? I just turned on the 'Mets Fast Forward' on SNY, and I watched it."
Clancy said he's recently started a Mets Fans Anonymous group on his podcast "We Gotta Believe," "where we all have a sponsor and we all try to get through this stupid, horrible addiction that we have for the New York Mets."
He added that he, his brother and his podcast co-host -- all new fathers -- have wrestled with the decision about whether to raise their kids as Mets fans.
"What we kind of came up with is a compromise, that daughters are set free because you can't do that to your little girl, but sons have to pay for the sins of their fathers," he joked.
"You know how much happier I'd be if I, like, played an instrument, that I liked Broadway or something like that? My life would be a thousand times better."
