It was a beautiful Opening Day for New York baseball fans.
WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti opened their show Friday by discussing the Yankees' 7-2 home win over the Orioles and the Mets' 2-0 victory at Washington the day before.
The Yankees got home runs out of Luke Voit and Greg Bird in their victory, while Aaron Judge went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored.
"When you see Luke Voit, (Giancarlo) Stanton and Judge standing next to each other in the dugout, it's like an offensive line, for God's sake," Esiason said. " I mean, they look unbelievable! I mean, physically the Yankees are going to dominate teams like this all year long. There's no question about it. And by the way, the Orioles may break the record for the worst team in the history of baseball."
Giannotti agreed that Baltimore will prove to be a punching bag for most of Major League Baseball.
"They (the Yankees) bullied them yesterday," Gio said. "Not only does that team have absolutely no talent, but they also are throwing out a guy on Opening Day (Andrew Cashner) that wasn't even supposed to start for them. There's guys that people who are big fantasy baseball guys, people who love baseball, they've never heard of in their lives."
Meanwhile, Robinson Cano had a big game in his Mets debut, going 2-for-4 with a home run and both of the team's RBIs.
And reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom pitched six scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out 10.
"I actually thought (the Nationals' Max) Scherzer pitched overall better than deGrom did yesterday," Esiason said. "It's just that deGrom, when he did get in a few jams, he did exactly what he did last year. ... When there are guys on base, he just bears down. ... He just gets like a wolverine on the mound in situations like that."
