This wasn't the formula the Yankees had in mind, but somehow they've won five straight and seven of their last eight.
In Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels, Domingo German allowed no earned runs over 6 2/3 innings, Mike Ford hit his first career homer, Thairo Estrada had a couple of hits and Tyler Wade made a home run-saving catch at the wall.
On Wednesday's "Boomer and Gio" show, Gregg Giannotti declared that this version of the Yankees is "the most fun" to watch since 2017.
"This is the first time since 2017 when that was an unexpected run that the Yankees had where they've been fun," Giannotti said. "It's different. It's energy. It's guys you've never heard of."
With 13 players on the injured list, including some of their biggest stars -- Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez to name a few -- it seemed far more likely that a losing streak would be in the Yankees' future. But it's been quite the opposite, with the Bombers improving their record to 13-10.
"In August, if the Yankees are anywhere near first place and they've got all their guys back, all these guys today enduring this run, depending on how far it goes and how well they end up doing, will be looked on as a season-saving performance if they can continue it that way, and (manager) Aaron Boone deserves a lot of credit for that," Boomer Esiason said. "There's something about chemistry."
Esiason added that general manager Brian Cashman also deserves credit for the quality of players who have been called up.
