Carson Palmer doesn't sound like one of those newly retired athletes going with withdrawals.
"Retirement is a great thing," the former Bengals, Raiders and Cardinals quarterback told WFAN's "Boomer & Gio" on Wednesday. "I have no complaints. I'm enjoying every second of it. I'm enjoying watching football and being a fan and just being on this end of the spectrum. It's been great."
After last season, his 14th in the NFL, Palmer called it a career. Now the three-time Pro Bowler is living up in the mountains of Idaho with his wife.
"After being in big cities and bouncing around and you remember the lifestyle of getting ready for training camp and then the season hits and just all of the chaos, we just wanted to slow things down," Palmer said. "Idaho is as slow as it gets."
In fact, it's so slow there that it took him a little while to readjust when he visited New York City this week.
"I freaked out," he said. "I walked out on Fifth Ave yesterday, and I was like scaling the glass walls. There was so many people, it just freaked me out."
In the interview, Palmer gave his assessment of Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold, whom he has some ties to. Both played at USC, and Darnold prepared for the draft by training under Palmer's brother, Jordan.
"Aside from the football ability that he has tons of, he's a great kid," Palmer said of Darnold. "But I thought he was by far the best quarterback in the draft. To me, he was can't miss. What else do you want him to do? He went in to college football, he won pretty much every time he stepped on the field, he didn't have a ton of NFL talent around him offensively or defensively, but he just gave his team chances to win every week. He's going to do that in the NFL."
