'Boomer & Gio': Doctors Say Knicks Should Stay Away From Durant

Kevin Durant underwent surgery Wednesday on his ruptured achilles. The once attractive Knicks free agent target would now be a huge risk for them to take. He's expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2019-2020 season. One of the NBA's top players may never be the same after he returns from the injury.

'Boomer & Gio' opened Thursday's show talking about Durant and how big of a risk it would be for the Knicks to sign him. Boomer polled a few doctors to see what they think about the Durant injury and if the Knicks should still pursue him.

"I talked to three different doctors yesterday ... two orthopedists and a pediatrist just to get a sense of what everyone is thinking," Boomer said. "I said if I were Jim Dolan and I had to invest $150 million in Kevin Durant, what would you advise me to do? Each one of these doctors said no way.

"All of them said he can come back. There's no question he will be back in a basketball uniform and he will be playing, but if you are paying for the Kevin Durant that was the best basketball player in the NBA this year and last year, you're not getting that guy. He's 7 foot tall. The achilles area of the foot according to these doctors and all of them agreed, the blood flow that goes there is basically non-existent. And that's one of the problems you have with this injury. Because of what he has to do, it's not going to be nearly what he was. He's not going to have the same explosiveness."

It would be quite the risk for the Knicks to take to give him a max contract.

"The Knicks don't owe him anything," said Boomer. "Who owes him something is Golden State. I also give him credit for saying I wanted to play. Major yellow flag to me this morning, especially after talking to these doctors."
