Boomer Esiason hung around the WFAN studios a little longer Wednesday morning to engage in a lengthy conversation with Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts about the Jets' coaching search.
The "Boomer & Gio" co-host and CBS Sports analyst said he believes Adam Schefter of ESPN's report that former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy would love to coach the Jets.
"I told you the other day ... that they had a great meeting, that Mike really liked (general manager) Mike Maccagnan, loved (CEO) Christopher Johnson," Esiason said.
"He was enamored, I believe, by the building, the facility. I think he loved the whole Florham Park area over there."
Esiason, who quarterbacked the Jets from 1993-95, said he also believes McCarthy is intrigued by the idea of working with Jets QB Sam Darnold.
"I think that Mike McCarthy is highly motivated to get back involved with the quarterback, calling the plays, getting involved," Esiason said.
McCarthy is just the type of leader the Jets need at this point, Esiason said.

"I think what you need, just from my perspective, is somebody that has the credibility to stand up in front of all 53 guys -- not just the offense, not just the defense," he said. "I need a guy that's going to rally the troops here. And the thing that I saw about Mike McCarthy when he was fired, he was allowed back into the building the next day to say goodbye to the team. The team gave him a standing ovation after he spoke to them."
Benigno, a lifelong Jets fan who has endorsed McCarthy as Gang Green's next coach since he was fired last month by the Packers, had a message for Johnson.
"Get it done!" he said. "Hire the right freaking guy for a change, and not some guy (who's a) first-time coach or Adam Gase ... that three years from now, four years from now, you're going to be in the same position again."
