NEW YORK (WFAN) - Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia underwent a heart procedure earlier this month, and is expected to make a full recovery, according to a report from The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
The news comes as a surprise after the veteran pitcher signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the Yankees earlier this offseason.
Sabathia was experiencing symptoms of acid reflux and chest pain during the week of Dec. 10, and decided to get himself checked out. After undergoing some tests, it was revealed that he had a blockage in one of the arteries leading to his heart.

The procedure, known as an angioplasty, involved doctors inserting a stent in order to open up the artery.
The veteran pitcher met with doctors on Friday, who told him that he is expected to fully recover and report to spring training as scheduled with the Yankees' other pitchers and catchers in mid-February.
Sabathia started 29 games for New York in 2018, earning a 3.65 ERA, his lowest since 2012, in 153 innings.
