Another one bites the dust. The Yankees' injury woes continue in what has been a nightmare month of constant maladies to start the season. You can now add outfielder Clint Frazier to the long list.
Following the Yankees' sixth straight win Wednesday night, manager Aaron Boone announced that Frazier is going to the 10-day injured list with a sprained ankle. Frazier joins 12 other Yankees on the IL.
Boone said he expects it to be a 10-to 14-day injury, so Frazier should not miss too much time. The Yankees recalled right-handed reliever Joe Harvey, whom they had just sent down Monday, to take Frazier's spot on the roster. Frazier was injured Monday getting back to second base on a pickoff attempt, rolling his ankle on the bag.
Losing Frazier for a couple of weeks is another big blow for the Yankees. The 24-year-old outfielder was hitting .324 with six homers and 17 RBIs in 18 games. His 17 RBIs were right behind Luke Voit's 18 for the team lead.
While the Yankees sent Frazier to the IL, they received more bad news on a guy who is already on the injured list. Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is on the IL with a strained left biceps. Boone announced Wednesday that Stanton is not swinging now due to a residual problem in his left shoulder that required a cortisone shot.
Stanton will stay in California to work with a rehab specialist and is expected to rejoin the team in Arizona next week, but there's no timetable yet for his return. Stanton has been out since April 1, playing in just three games.
