Entering his final weekend of freedom before starting his prison sentence, former WFAN morning show host Craig Carton vowed Friday to redeem himself following his fraud conviction.
In a statement posted on Twitter, Carton, who will begin serving his 42-month sentence Monday, acknowledged he made many mistakes and said he'll spend his time in prison working to turn his life around.
"I made mistakes," Carton, 50, wrote. "Mistakes in judgements, decisions and how I was living my life. I was wrong. I have, will and should continue to pay a dear price for those mistakes. I also though, believe in redemption and earning second chances. I am keenly aware that my life doesn't end when I go to prison, to the contrary it actually begins. I plan on making the most of the positive and life growing opportunities that the prison offers. I will work tirelessly to repay those whom I have hurt and to regain the trust that you all had in me. I look forward to the day when you accept that I have lived up to these promises and allow me the opportunity to once again be a part of your lives. I know when that day comes you will see and hear the best version of me."
Carton, who co-hosted the "Boomer and Carton" show from 2007 to 2017 with former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, was convicted in November of conspiracy, wire fraud and securities fraud related to his ticket-resale business that duped investors out of millions of dollars. Prosecutors said he spent $5.6 million of investor money on personal expenses, including gambling debts.
Carton resigned from WFAN following his September 2017 arrest.
He was sentenced in April to 3 1/2 years in prison, 150 hours of community service and $4.8 million in restitution.
